A post-construction cleaning checklist before handover
Plan post-construction cleaning by identifying the completed areas, requested tasks and the next handover or occupancy date. Agree the cleanup stage and responsibilities before scheduling, because a final clean, active-work cleanup and a return visit are different scopes.
Identify the project stage and point of contact
Record which rooms are complete, which trades are still working and who can approve access. Provide the next inspection, handover and occupancy dates. Changes to the construction schedule can change the cleaning window.
List surfaces and requested tasks room by room
Record floor materials, new finishes and care instructions. Describe dust, residue, packaging and debris separately, and identify the cleaning requested for each room. Confirm the provider’s agreed tasks rather than assume a general construction-cleanup label includes everything.
Confirm readiness and access
Ask the project contact to confirm that work areas and finishes are ready for the agreed cleaning. Discuss entry, available routes, furniture or equipment, and spaces still used by trades. Specialist remediation or hazardous-material handling needs a separate discussion and is not an advertised Brake’s service.
Compare cost for the same scope
Give each provider the same room list, project stage, materials, requested tasks and number of visits. Discuss extra visits if construction continues after cleaning. The scope and conditions explain more than a square-foot price by itself.
